Why it matters

The internet is responsible for roughly 4% of global carbon emissions — about the same as the aviation industry. Most websites are built without ever measuring it. Bloated assets, badly tuned databases, ad-tech everywhere, hosting on coal-heavy regions: each unmeasured site quietly adds to the load.

A low-carbon site is a measured site. It loads faster, costs less to run, ranks better on search, and — almost as a side effect — emits a fraction of the carbon of an unmeasured equivalent.

Roughly 2.3 million tonnes of CO₂ are emitted and 2.3 TWh of electricity consumed every day to power the internet. A single Google search uses about 0.3 Wh of energy and generates around 0.2g of CO₂.

What we actually do

Set a budget at the start. Every project gets a target page weight, a performance budget (LCP, CLS, INP), and a carbon-per-pageview number we won't ship over.
Build to it, not against it. Lean asset pipelines, minimal third-party scripts, properly compressed media, no dependency-of-the-week.
Host green. Renewable-powered infrastructure by default. We move existing client sites to greener hosts when it makes sense.
Measure on every release. Performance and carbon checks run automatically — no shipping a site that quietly bloats over time.
Plant trees too. The studio funds reforestation through Ecologi against every engagement. It's the smallest part of the work but worth doing.
